Hand Painted Coats of Arms

This Coats of Arms -
The coat of arms pictured here was hand painted onto reflective honeycombed road sign traffic material for Montgomeryshire County Council. This is an unusual material to work on but with the right primer the paints adhered well and we could use gold leaf. It was actually cheaper than screen printing 12 off and visually more dynamic due to the use of gold leaf rather than gold or yellow inks.

Coats of Arms - Materials & Sizes
We can either hand paint or print a coat of arms onto almost any material, we can also produce your coat of arms to any size.

Source & Interpretation - Coats of Arms
We can produce a hand painted or printed coat of arms from an image or from the official blazon, or your verbal description. Artists who produce coats of arms know that there are certain rules to follow but there is also a wide degree of interpretation allowed before the coat of arms becomes incorrect.

Legal Position - Coats of Arms
For a coat of arms to become official it must be granted by the College of Heralds. This process may take a few years and evn then it may not be guaranteed. You will need in the region of 3 to 4000 pounds, which happily is payable in stages as you go through the system. We would be happy to help you with this process and/or to design your coat of arms. Initial advise is free but if you decide to go ahead we have to charge.
You can simply create your own coat of arms and use it like a logo but it would not be a real coat of arms.
You probably have no official entitlement to use or display a coat of arms if it has been granted to someone with the same surname as you. However, as I understand it, you will not be breaking a law of the land but are more likely to be infringing copyright laws. A coat of arms is granted to an individual and their descendants, not to anyone who has the same name. There doesn't seem to be any legal problem over inappropriate use of a coat of arms these days, which is a shame, but those who have been granted arms can be sure that theirs is real and anything like it is only an impersonation.
